‘Rattan’ is a terminology used to give name to around six-hundred different species of palms in the tribe of Calameae, which come originally from tropical regions of Asia, Africa and Australasia. Rattans are widely used in furniture making and basketry. Willow, for its part, comes from a very different part of the world, namely moist soils in cold and temperate regions of the septentrional hemisphere. This name includes around four-hundred different species of trees, all equally suitable for furniture and basket making. Similar to Rattan and Willow, and also used in superb furniture making for its exquisite quality and finishes, is Wicker.
